What is faith & why do we need it?
Faith is one of the central themes of the Bible which is God’s true authentic written word. Faith is mentioned directly over 360 times in addition to many scriptures that describe stories of hope, confidence, belief, and trust. Faith is diverse and there are many daily events in our lives that confirm the spiritual, scientific, and psychological nature of it. Faith is an essential resource that can be used spiritually to bring our visions into reality.
Faith is described as substance, which is the material, essence, meaning and hope for life. (Hebrews 11:1) Faith is unseen while our hopes are made of pictures, dreams, and visions. The book of Hebrews in the New Testament of the Bible talks a great deal about faith and describes the characteristics of it. We are encouraged to have faith in our belief in God and His ability to bring our desires into reality when this is in line with His purpose for our lives and that of those around us.
There are many ways in which faith is described and demonstrated in the Bible. When we read the words of scripture, we access powerful spiritual resources that have the propensity to change our current circumstances into a more desired outcome. As a substance, it can be quantified, however, the size or measure of our faith does not indicate the size of the outcome. Matthew 17:20 states that if we have faith as a Mustard Seed (which is the smallest seed in existence) we can achieve anything. Impossibilities are diminished and circumstances that may seem unobtainable can be shifted, broken down and eliminated. This scripture is symbolic of our ability to affect change in our finances, relationships, ability, and every negative circumstance.
Mark 11:22-24 describes the importance of having faith in God when Jesus answered his disciple, Peter, who noticed a fig tree that he had earlier cursed due to not having the fruit it was created to produce. Jesus stated the importance of speaking about what we want in addition to believing that it will be ours if we do not doubt. Jesus also confirmed the parable about the mountain he stated we can move; particularly when we pray (speak) with God about what we are hoping for. Jesus had many faith news stories of God’s desire to bless us and our ability to use the spiritual power and resource of faith.
